Salazar Continues Campaign of Lies, Flip-Flopping on Essential Healthcare Protections

Donna Shalala remains firm in her commitment to protect the healthcare of her constituents.

Maria Elvira Salazar continues to deceive voters, this time flip-flopping on whether she will support the ACA and its protections for people with preexisting conditions. Voters deserve to know where their candidates stand on this life-and-death issue.

Just two years ago, Salazar said she wants “to repeal the Affordable Care Act.” Yet, today in an interview with the Miami Herald’s editorial board, Salazar claimed, “If you like your Obamacare, you keep your Obamacare.”

Salazar also refused today to comment on the ongoing Republican lawsuit to dismantle the legislation that nearly 100,000 residents of Florida’s 27th Congressional District rely on. She falsely claimed that Members of Congress have no role in the lawsuit. In fact, Donna Shalala has actively weighed in, voting to authorize the House of Representatives to intervene as a party in the lawsuit.

“The people of South Florida deserve a Congresswoman who will defend access to affordable, high-quality healthcare, not someone who refuses to take a stand,” said Raul Martinez, campaign manager for Donna Shalala for Congress. “As the longest-serving Secretary of Health and Human Services in American history, Donna Shalala knows the issue through-and-through, and will never stop fighting for her constituents’ health.”
